Two of the heaviest hitters in Australian horticulture are set to unite, with confirmation that AUSVEG and Apple and Pear Australia Ltd (APAL) will host a joint National Horticulture Convention on the Gold Coast in 2015.

Bioenergy: the ‘do able’ renewable

Discover Gippsland’s renewable fuel potential at an exciting bioenergy forum on June 18-19.
Hear how Gippslanders are generating power from food-waste; heating greenhouses with bioenergy, using biochar to boost soil health and exploring fuel from forest residues.
Meet the small Victorian town that is pioneering biomass for heating. Interstate speakers will explain how other regional communities can develop bioenergy projects.
The first-day forum is at timber-town Heyfield (only 2.5 hours from Melbourne) and the second day offers a first-ever visit to bioenergy installations in Latrobe and Wellington Shires including visits to biogas power generation and woody biomass thermal bioenergy facilities in Morwell, Maryvale and Yarragon.
Organised by the Victorian Bioenergy Network and Agribusiness Gippsland, with support from Regional Development Australia Gippsland, Sustainability Victoria, Latrobe City and Wellington Shire councils.

Jindivick Landcare Group – Weed Management without herbicides

Alan Broughton comes from a farming background in the north-east of Victoria and now lives at Sarsfield in East Gippsland. Alan is as an organic agriculture researcher and farmer at Strathfieldsaye Estate, (a large certified organic beef property) on the shores of Lake Wellington in East Gippsland. He has been involved with the Organic Agriculture Association since 1985 in various roles, including education officer and current vice president. He prepared the first Diploma of Organic Farming course in Australia, which he teaches part time currently through East Gippsland TAFE.

Alan also has a strong interest in international food security and has spent time studying sustainable agricultural systems in Tanzania, Cuba and Venezuela.
During this presentation, Alan will focus on pasture weeds and will also talk about weed management in general.

After the resounding success of the August 2014 course, we are incredibly excited to announce that Graeme Sait is coming back to the south east of South Australia in June 2015 to present his internationally acclaimed 4 day Certificate in Nutrition Farming® (formally the Certificate in Sustainable Agriculture). This is a rare opportunity to learn from one of the worlds most highly regarded experts in biological farming.
