Understanding Weather Trends & Forecasting (WTF)

Join us for a stimulating forum of ideas and information to build adaptation and resilience on your property.

10.30-11.30 am  Guest speaker: Jane Bunn (ABC TV Weather Presenter)

Meet Jane and hear her presentation on understanding  the weather. Learn more about the concepts of weather – how it works, the reliability of forecasts, how to see how much rain is coming, understanding the weather map etc – and a discussion on what weather we can expect for the next six to nine months.

11.45 am– 12.45 pm Guest speaker: Graeme Anderson DEPI  (Seasonal Climate Scientist)

Graeme will outline the key drivers of seasonal climate variability and lead a discussion about some options for farm responses. This will include aspects of both weather variability and climate change. Graeme will also introduce some climate tools/ links that will help you both understand weather drivers and obtain information about the latest weather indicators and forecasting.

Lunch 12.45 – 1.15 pm

Climate change challenges and opportunities– can you get there from here?

This is your chance to discuss the information your agribusiness needs to adapt to the changes that climate change will bring.  What are other farmers doing to address the effect of longer heatwaves during summer for instance?  Can you learn from them? Are you a leader in your climate planning? What can you share with other farmers?

Growing Connection Project

You are invited to meet the landholders  & others involved in the ‘Growing Connections’ project.

The ‘Growing Connections’ project aims to enhance and protect remnant habitat across the Western Port Biosphere.  This project is delivered by the Western Port Catchment Landcare Network in partnership with the Western Port Biosphere as part of the Connect and Improve Habitat Corridors to Create a Resilient Biosphere project supported through funding from the Australian Government.

Bandicoot Corner – Activity Day

The weather forecast for Sunday is suggesting a typical Spring day, sunny with showers.

We will be finishing the revegetation for this year with some in-fill planting in a central part of the reserve.

Wet weather gear and work gloves will be required; tree planters and other tools will be provided.

The area already revegetated is looking great, and the fauna are utilising this site (bandicoots, birds, snakes).

The day will commence on Sunday, 21st September at 10:00, and plan to conclude by 14:00.

Light refreshments will be provided; if you have not already, can you please advise if you are planning to attend.

Spring into Peninsula Gardens, Boneo

On Saturday, 11 October, take a walk with us around the Peninsula Gardens reserve, owned by the Mornington Peninsula Shire. Join Dr Beth Gott, renowned ethnobotanist, as she guides us through traditional uses of some plants we will see, and the management of the ecosystems we will walk through. Spot a kangaroo or two, photograph beautiful wildflowers, birds and stunning grass trees and fern gullies.

Spring into Nature 2014 – Spring among the ferns in Gembrook

Spring into Nature is your chance to view private conservation properties, many of which are not normally open to the public. It is a free and practical way to learn and experience what we do at Trust for Nature, in partnership with private landowners, to protect our native wildlife. Come along to celebrate the local environment, experience the vibrance and diversity of our native plants and wildlife, and enjoy spring the way nature intended!

On Saturday, 4 October, join us as we head deep into the fern gullies of Gembrook to explore the tall forests, moist gullies and spring flowers. Hear from experts on the land of owls, bandicoots and perhaps you may even see or hear a Lyrebird. Morning tea will be provided.
